NetBeans is an open-source Integrated Development Environment (IDE) for software development. It is primarily used for developing Java applications, but can also be used for developing applications in other programming languages such as C, C++, Python, and HTML5. NetBeans provides a wide range of features for software development, including code completion, debugging, and refactoring tools. It also includes support for version control systems such as Subversion and Git. NetBeans also has plugins that provide support for web technologies such as HTML, PHP, and JavaScript. The user interface is highly customizable and can be used in both GUI and command-line modes. NetBeans is available for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X.
Netbeans is developed from eclipse
Support for keyboard shortcuts, Eclipse MarketPlace, SCM integration, CheckStyle integration, autocomplete, etc.
VS is oriented to C, C++ and C# not Java, which is the main target of netbeans.
NetBeans is an IDE for Java, Microsoft Visual Studio is not.
Good Copmlection code as inellisense and very easy to use.
I worked with NetBeans for a couple of years and always loved it, but for professional users the annual fee is well spent: a better interface, better code intelligence, more options to adjust what happens when saving a file (e.g. saving or loading in multiple places). You get a couple of feature updates every year plus bug fixes, whereas NetBeans is sometimes very slow to update things (compatibility with the new version of a language) or to fix known bugs.
Discontinued Aptana is still under development on GitHub but the latest version, 3.6.1, was released in October 2014. It lacks Java 8/9 features, as well as more recent JavaScript and HTML 5 features.
