It has more space than the mailbox provides. Plus all the google services. But Windows: the backup and sync app is slow. Dropbox app for Windows is much better.

Love, love, love mega. Lots of space and fast servers. Plus, they have a great Linux client with a simple GUI. You're not going to share much with 10GB bandwidth per month, but it's perfect for storing and syncing files with a tablet or phone.

Requires self-hosting, which can be a limit for many. Since a good understanding of security issues is mandatory, think twice before using it. However, it is the best alternative for those not looking to have their data hosted on an NSA server.

Syncthing is a service for synchronizing files between devices, it does not host files like Dropbox. This is not an alternative.

Although Seafile.de works with a slightly more complex client than Dropbox, it also has more options. Importantly, it is open source, unlike Dropbox. In addition, storing files using Seafile.de's services means that your data is stored in Germany, which has stricter privacy laws. Note: Although Seafile offers client-side encryption, at the time of this writing, it only encrypts the contents of the files, not the names or metadata. (Dropbox, however, does not offer this at all).
Access to your files through the website is very similar to Dropbox. Low prices, European privacy laws and open source clients compatible with Mac, Windows and Linux. In Europe, upload speeds on the order of 1-2MB/s, download speeds 1-6MB/s depending on the number of files. I obtained similar speeds with Dropbox in the UK. Use in conjunction with Cryptomator for maximum privacy.

Data privacy is much better than Dropbox, and the encrypted folder works well. It acts like a drive connected to your PC, not a folder, so the file is stored directly in your cloud account and not on your device. When the larger drives are found (I have 2TB), it allows me to run the backup utilities built into the web interface to back up Dropbox, Facebook, Google Drive, and Google Photo, which gives me an additional level of redundancy in my backups.

Tresorit does everything Dropbox does, except it's much more secure and private. It operates in Switzerland and keeps your files encrypted so that even employees can't see them. This means that if they were hacked, your information won't be leaked and they won't be able to pass it on to three-letter agencies.
End-to-end encrypted Dropbox alternative. It does what Dropbox, Google Drive and others do. But files are only encrypted with the passwords you store on your computer. So Tresorit doesn't get to see your private stuff. Expensive for individuals, though, but fantastic security.
Pydio is very similar to owncloud, so if owncloud is considered an alternative to Dropbox, so is Pydio.

If you don't mind setting up your own server, NextCloud is an excellent Dropbox alternative because 1) it's open source, 2) you control your data, 3) your storage limit is determined only by your hard drive limit. Alternatively, you can get services to host a NextCloud installation on your servers, but then give that service access to your data. Unless you encrypt the client side with something like Cryptomator first.
