XAMPP is a free and open-source development software and application stack that allows users to develop and test web applications in a local environment. XAMPP stands for "Cross-Platform, Apache, MySQL, PHP, and Perl," and it provides an easy-to-install package that contains the Apache web server, MySQL database server, and PHP and Perl programming languages. With XAMPP, developers can develop and test web applications on their own computers, without the need to purchase a web hosting service or use a remote server. Additionally, XAMPP provides tools and features such as a control panel to manage the various components of the stack, security measures to protect the development environment, and tools to help with the development process.

I love the easy-to-use tools AMPPS gives you to install and configure a variety of open source tools on your desktop. Simple "wizards" guide you through the process of setting up wordpress and others, while suggesting free themes to install. Very smooth.
UwAmp is small, light and portable, but you can run any project you are working on from your desktop computer or USB drive, wherever you are. Use a different UwAmp for every project, WordPress, Bootstrap, etc. When you're done, simply delete, no reg tear!
Discontinued The program is no longer updated. The latest version, 8.6, released in September 2013, can still be downloaded from Mediafire.
