MAMP (which stands for Mac Apache MySQL PHP) is a free, open-source software package that can be used to set up a local server environment on Mac OS X computers. It is designed to be an easy-to-use, all-in-one solution for web developers and designers to develop and test websites and web applications on their local machine. It includes the Apache web server, the well-known MySQL database server, and the popular scripting language PHP, as well as other useful tools such as the phpMyAdmin database administration tool. MAMP also includes a number of helpful tools such as a built-in FTP server, an SSL certificate generator, and a number of other development and debugging tools. With MAMP, users can create a fully-functional development environment on their local machine, allowing them to test and develop their websites and web applications without having to purchase or install a web server, database server, or script language on their system.
