VirtualDub is a free, open-source, cross-platform video and movie capture/processing utility for Microsoft Windows. It is designed to process linear video streams, including filtering, recompressing, and encoding. It can also be used to capture video from a computer screen and convert it into a video file. It is an excellent choice for capturing video from analog sources such as VHS tapes, and is also a great tool for editing existing video files. It provides support for multiple video formats including AVI, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, and MPEG-4, as well as a variety of audio formats. With VirtualDub, users can trim video, crop video, add transitions, adjust color balance, add effects, and even add subtitles. It also includes several tools to help in the editing process, including a preview window, timeline editing, and a plugin system for adding additional functionality.
Although I like Avidemux, you can't capture video with it.
Virtualdub clone with more functionality.
Better support for input formats, such as flv. More features.
VirtualDub is a fast and free lighting tool, Adobe Premiere Pro is an expensive kind of proprietary _locked_ dinosaur. In addition, Adobe Premiere lacks the important feature of editing without recompression.
The discontinuation of Windows Movie Maker is no longer updated and is no longer supported by Microsoft. The latest version, included in https://alternativeapp.info/software/windows-live-essentials/ 2012, can still be downloaded from winaero.com. It is fully functional under Windows 10 as well.
Discontinued The project is no longer being developed since 2014, but the program can still be downloaded and is running.

VirtualDub is easy to use and full of features. You can easily cut a piece of a video in 1 minute. OpenShot does not offer such easy accessibility. After 15 minutes I could not cut a part of the video and save it. I uninstalled it.
