S4 is a backup and sync application designed to make the backup and synchronization of files and folders easy, secure, and reliable. It works on Windows, Mac, Linux, and mobile devices, and can be used to backup and sync files and folders between computers, external hard drives, and cloud storage services. It supports a wide range of file types, including photos, music, videos, documents, and more. It also features an intuitive user interface, as well as advanced features such as encryption, versioning, and delta synchronization. S4 allows users to access their data from any device, no matter where they are. It also includes a recovery feature that allows users to quickly recover from data loss caused by accidental deletion, viruses, or hardware failure.
Spideroak is end-to-end encrypted (zero knowledge), like S4. It is cheaper and offers a synchronization folder (S4 is planning one). However, with SpiderOak you don't get unlimited storage, which S4 offers.
Seafile is more similar to Dropbox than to S4. It is a sync service hosted in Germany (Seafile.de) and uses an open source client (Seafile.com). S4 is a backup service only. They promise a sync folder, but it is not yet available.
Discontinued Current subscribers were informed last year that CrashPlan Home will be discontinued in October 2018. The service has recommended users sign up for another home service such as Carbonite, or for CrashPlan's much more expensive business plan.
Discontinued As announced at https://ind.ie/blog/focus/, Pulse will no longer be supported, but you can still download it from the official website and use it.
