PCE (short for Personal Computer Entertainment System) is a classic gaming platform developed in the 1980s by NEC Home Electronics. It was one of the earliest console systems to offer a variety of games in cartridge format. The console was released in Japan in 1987 and later released in Europe in 1989. PCE features a wide variety of games, including action, adventure, shoot-em-ups, puzzle, sports, and strategy titles. The library of available games consists of over 80 titles, with most of them being developed by NEC and Hudson Soft. The games are usually considered to be of higher quality than those of other 8-bit consoles. The console is compatible with both TV and monitor, and comes with a unique controller. The controller has two buttons and a directional pad, which makes it ideal for a variety of games. PCE games are still popular today, with many of them being ported to modern platforms such as the PlayStation 2, Wii, and Xbox 360. The platform is also the origin of many popular series such as Castlevania, Gradius, and Bonk.
