Arpoon Checksum is a web application (or website) designed to help users ensure the integrity of their files during transfers over the Internet. It uses a cryptographic hash algorithm to generate a checksum – a unique string of characters – for a file, which can then be used to detect any changes that may have occurred to the file while it was being transferred. The checksum is calculated by taking the data of the file and applying the chosen algorithm to it. If the same algorithm is applied to the data of the received file, the two checksums should match. If they do not, then the file has been modified or corrupted in some way, and the user will be alerted to this. Arpoon Checksum can also be used to check for unintentional changes in files, such as typos in text documents.
