Description

Whonix is a security-focused operating system (OS) based on the Debian GNU/Linux distribution. It is designed to take advantage of the privacy and security provided by the Tor network. Whonix consists of two virtual machines (VMs) running on a host computer. The first VM is called the Gateway, and serves as the entry point to the Tor network. The second VM is called the Workstation, and contains the user’s applications and data. This separation of concerns allows users to benefit from the security and privacy provided by the Tor network without having to trust the underlying host operating system. The Whonix system also includes a number of security and privacy enhancing utilities such as Qubes, AppArmor, and Tor Browser.
