Tmux is a terminal multiplexer for Unix-like operating systems. It allows multiple terminal sessions to be accessed simultaneously in a single window. It supports both text-based and graphical user interfaces and can be used to create and manage multiple windows, each of which can contain multiple panes (splits). It also provides features such as session persistence, scrollback, copy/paste and the ability to switch between windows quickly. This makes it an ideal tool for multitasking, allowing users to interact with multiple applications at once. Tmux allows users to customize the look and feel of the environment with themes and customize key bindings. It can also be used for remote server administration.
It has the most intuitive key combinations and the widest range of capabilities among those I have tested. However, the first thing you should do after installation is to change the command character because it is a terrible choice.
