SolidWorks is a 3D mechanical CAD (Computer-Aided Design) program used for product design and development. It is used to create high-quality models and assemblies of parts, assemblies, and products. It is a professional-grade software used by engineers, architects, and designers to create detailed 3D models of their projects. SolidWorks offers a range of features to help designers create models quickly and accurately. These features include powerful modeling tools such as surface modeling, parametric design, solid modeling, motion simulation, and assembly modeling. SolidWorks also provides a wide range of tutorials and support to help users get started.
Function Differently under the hood.
It's just like Solidworks, close to the same terminology, icons, location, etc. Not to mention that it is free (for the most basic version) and in the cloud.
It is free (fully functional), cross-platform (including mobile).
You can find almost all SolidWorks features in this application. The most exciting feature is that all college students can get it free for 3 years.
Easy, excellent support, lots of tutorials, mobile showroom application, ezports to all possible formats, CAD and CAM (very powerful)
It shows that it can open .step files and I have a few GrabCad files that I want to review and see that I can at least save in other file formats, i.e. .dwg.
It is an AutoCAD clone, not SolidWorks.
Discontinued The project is no longer being developed. The latest version, 1.8.8, released in December 2014, can still be downloaded from the official website.
Salome can solve some problems like SolidWork's COSMOS can. Also the UI concept of Salome is very similar.
Discontinued Autodesk has discontinued its 123d line of applications.
From what I have tried, FreeCAD is the only FOSS alternative to Solidworks / Catia / PTC that has a functional workflow. It is the best of a poor bunch.
