El paquete de Office de Microsoft, con precios excesivos, con errores y que invade la privacidad tiene una cuota de mercado injustificadamente grande. (Lea mi reseña de Microsoft Office Word aquí). Conozco a varias personas que están hartas de la forma en que Microsoft hace las cosas y quieren alejarse, por ejemplo, a Linux. Uno de sus temores es que Libre Office no satisfaga su requisito de mantenerse compatible con colegas o amigos que permanezcan en Windows / Mac. Única oficina al rescate! Es gratis (como en la cerveza) y de código abierto (confiable). Proporciona la misma interfaz, en gran parte familiar, para los usuarios de Windows, Mac y Linux. Abre / guarda los archivos .doc y .docx con menos defectos (si los hay) que Libre Office. Para el 90% de los usuarios de Microsoft Office que desean cambiar de Linux y Mac, reducirá el riesgo de incompatibilidad con otros.
Es una excelente alternativa a la supresión de MS Office en China, de código cerrado (y, en mi opinión, poco confiable), WPS. Además, Only Office tiene menos restricciones (por ejemplo, no le impide imprimir, mientras que WPS sí lo hace si no paga). Only Office también es una excelente alternativa a Google Docs, Zoho Docs y MS Office en línea. No hay más necesidad de revelar su privacidad haciendo todo lo que está en los servidores de alguna compañía que puede o no fisgonear sobre lo que está haciendo. He ejecutado Only Office en Windows, Mac y Linux (Manjaro) y he tenido una experiencia relativamente positiva en todos los aspectos. En Windows tuve una o dos quejas: se demoró en cargar y cambié mis preferencias para las aplicaciones que abren archivos .pdf.
Pero eso es todo. En todas las plataformas, parece que después de la instalación inicial, la primera ejecución es un poco defectuosa o que solo Office se bloquea. Sin embargo, los usos subsiguientes son perfectamente confiables, así que si lo intentas, mantén un poco de paciencia en reserva hasta que la aplicación se "caliente". Debería valer la pena. Dicho esto, a Only Office le faltan algunas funciones que MS Office y Libre Office tienen, por ejemplo: No hay plugin para Mendeley, EndNote, Zotero o cualquier otro software de administración de referencias similar. (Tanto MS Office como Libre Office tienen esto). Solo Office no puede guardar en carpetas de webdav (Libre Office y MS Word a veces también puede tener problemas con esto. Solo Office no tiene la funcionalidad). No se pueden incrustar archivos OLE como MS Word. en Windows.
Los usuarios de Mac no se lo perderán, ya que Microsoft no ofrece compatibilidad con OLE en Office para Mac, ya que los competidores de Apple tratan a los usuarios de Mac como ciudadanos de segunda clase). Hasta ahora, los desarrolladores de Only Office han hecho un excelente trabajo. Espero que sigan y tengan éxito.
