Comparing web applications with a fully developed professional application is ridiculous!
Discontinued The application is no longer under development. The latest version, 1.4, released in October 2008, can still be downloaded from SourceForge.
It's great because it gives you free gant charts. that's all it does and while it's great, some of the others offer more features, however, this is the best one that is free to use.
Many of the MS Project alternatives listed are not based on a waterfall / GANTT style design, but this is so.
Freedcamp is a good collaboration tool, it is not a project management solution.

I love this app, it's very intuitive and easy to use, it's even a fully loaded project management software for professionals and everyone who needs project management on Mac. The latest version of Merlin Project 5 even has agile pm with excellent Kanban board views.

MS Project is a computer based application, not a web application. If I wanted a (self) hosted application, I would make it very clear.
