Just Cause is an open-world action-adventure video game series set in a fictional world. The series follows the adventures of protagonist Rico Rodriguez, a member of the fictional Agency, a paramilitary organization tasked with overthrowing oppressive governments and restoring freedom and justice to the oppressed people. The game series is noted for its expansive environments, fast-paced and often chaotic action, and the ability to grapple objects and tether them together for unique vehicle stunts. The first game in the series, Just Cause, was released in 2006 and saw Rico as he worked to overthrow a dictator in the fictional South American country of San Esperito. The sequel, Just Cause 2, was released in 2010 and followed Rico as he was sent to the fictional Southeast Asian island of Panau to overthrow its oppressive dictator. The third game in the series, Just Cause 3, was released in 2015 and followed Rico as he returned to San Esperito to overthrow a new dictator. The fourth and latest game in the series, Just Cause 4, was released in 2018 and followed Rico as he was sent to the fictional South American country of Solís to investigate the mysterious Black Hand organization. The game features a new extreme weather engine, allowing for unique weather events such as tornadoes, blizzards, sandstorms, and thunderstorms.
