Finnix is an open source, live Linux distribution, designed to be run from a removable media, such as a USB flash drive or CDROM. It is based on the Debian GNU/Linux operating system and includes a variety of tools and utilities for system administration and maintenance tasks. Finnix is designed to be small, fast and reliable, and is suitable for use in a variety of situations, such as system recovery and troubleshooting, system installation, and system maintenance. It can also be used as a general purpose live Linux system for everyday tasks, such as web browsing and email. Finnix is designed to be easy to use and highly configurable, and includes a wide range of powerful features, such as: support for a variety of filesystems, disk imaging and cloning, hardware detection and configuration, an integrated package management system, and a powerful shell scripting language.
