Yaboot is an open-source boot loader for PowerPC-based systems running the Linux and Mac OS X operating systems. It is intended to be a replacement for the Open Firmware boot loader on PowerPC-based systems. Yaboot is the default boot loader on many PowerPC-based Linux distributions, including Ubuntu and Fedora. It is also used in Mac OS X on PowerPC-based systems. Yaboot is responsible for loading the operating system kernel, setting up virtual memory, and performing other tasks necessary to boot the system. It can also be used to boot other operating systems, such as Microsoft Windows or BSD Unix. Yaboot is capable of booting from any partition or device on the system, including CD-ROMs, hard disks, and USB devices. In addition, Yaboot can be used to boot multiple operating systems from the same system.
