Trelby is a free, open-source screenwriting software application designed to help writers create scripts for feature films, television shows, and plays. It is available for download for Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems. Trelby allows users to write, edit, and collaborate on scripts with a variety of features including auto-complete, customizable templates, script formatting and automatic formatting, spell-checking, character identification, and unique tracking tools. Trelby also includes a wide range of reference books, articles, and other resources to aid in the writing process, including a Script Library where users can store their own scripts and share them with other users. In addition, Trelby offers a number of other features such as cloud storage, a backup and restore function, and the ability to export scripts in industry-standard formats such as PDF, FDX, and Final Draft.
Celtx is the standard free alternative, and one of the best alternatives besides Final Draft.
