Scrivener is a powerful business and enterprise application that helps users to write, organize, and compile documents with ease. It is designed to help writers of all kinds, be it bloggers, novelists, students, lawyers, or marketers, to break down large documents into smaller, manageable pieces, allowing them to easily focus on one area at a time. Scrivener also helps users to easily organize their documents, research, and notes into one place. It lets users group related documents together into folders, and provides a powerful search feature for quickly finding the information they need. It also offers an array of features for formatting text, compiling documents into various output formats, and tracking progress on long-term projects. Overall, Scrivener is an invaluable tool for anyone who needs to manage and compile large documents quickly and efficiently.
Laughing badly. Scrivener has the good sense to stay out of your way when you know what you're doing. Not only did the bibisco constantly get in the way (no, it follows OUR tutorial!) but it also insisted on doing it. tops. Is this some kind of joke?
Simple and very useful to get to know your characters!
I used bibiscus briefly a few years ago, and I remember it being packed with useful features. It's great for fiction writers because it gives them a variety of fields to define their character. However, I felt the software was a bit too bulky for what I wanted. The best thing about bibisco is that it's 100% free, which is good if your funds are limited or if you don't make a profit from your writing.
Bibisco is free, has a very good design and structure that helps to create an outline of a fiction book. The text editor is quite simple and the work is quite intuitive.
There are many similar design features compared to Scrivener. It also has some features that Scrivener seems to be missing or does not clearly define, such as an outline process. However, it is very early development and has many bugs to work out.
It is very clearly structured and has great options and tools. Very easy to understand, very useful.
It's free, it's easy to use and intuitive. The only thing that would make Ywriter better would be if it had an option to sync with other devices or something. Seriously, this is so much better than scrivener!
In my journey through the world of effective writing applications, like many, I blindly downloaded and attempted to use Scrivener. As noted, this was an attempt and, for the better, it was explained that it was a failed attempt, as Scrivener lacks a WYSIWYG approach. yWriter, however, is an absolute gem that provides all the necessary development tools broken down into a logical format that follows the story development lifecycle from inception to completion.
Mainly oriented towards "scripts" for movies, games, etc. Can be useful for (non-)fiction writing, but does not share the wider range of tools found in Scrivener.
You can't just show the current document, there's no distraction-free mode. It always has these columns that drill down. It doesn't have a corkboard mode or anything similar. Gingko is closer to mind mapping software, like Scrapple.
You can divide your book into scenes, sub-scenes and sub-sub-sub-scenes ... the process continues. It is the same as offering 'parts' 'chapters' and 'scenes'.
True Novelist works just like and looks almost identical to Scrivener (so no learning curve to use it), is online only, so no software to download, is free, provides statistics by chapter, full document and journal, allows setting daily writing goals, saves automatically and also has snapshots, has a distraction-free mode and a dark theme that sets up nighttime. It allows setting daily writing goals, saves automatically and also has snapshots, has a distraction-free mode and a dark theme that sets the night. True Novelist is truly amazing.
It works great and it's free. You have no limits and you can really do whatever you want with it. It has a dark mode, works on any device with an internet connection, unlimited scenes and is designed to be almost the same as Scrivener.
This little site is quite elegant and has what I consider the core functionality of Scrivener and is hosted online and is completely free. The only drawback is that the development is listed as DOA and the creator of the site hasn't done anything since early 2016.
Simple and clean interface. Flexible structure of the novel you prefer. Have good sections for research and text snippets that you can use someday. Just enough features to ... start ... writing!
A Scrivener wannabe with a lot less clutter.
Clean and hassle-free interface - easy and intuitive to use
It shares many features, but little of the clutter.
Essentially an advanced tree structure for an ongoing manuscript project. Possibly, it helps the view to find sections, but does nothing to contribute to the creative process.
Discontinued The program is no longer updated. The latest version, 2.4.4, released in October 2012, can still be downloaded from the official website.
Again, you are using editing tools when we look for a brushing tool like Secrivener, even if you look at the drag tool, there is nothing like it.
It is an easy to use program. It looks great, and has some very nice tools. Best of all it works on my chromebook and Linux as well.
Simply the best writing tool for ChromeOS and a strong contender for other operating systems.

Actually, it is a better alternative to Scrivener because of its clear and organizational features. I wish I had discovered this before I bought Scrivener. Bibisco is much easier to use: you don't need long tutorials to read just to get started. No doubt this is better.
