Snes9x is a free, open source, cross-platform Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) emulator. It was originally developed as a closed-source application for Windows in 1997, but its source code was released in 2000. Snes9x is now available for Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, FreeBSD, BeOS, and other platforms. It is the only SNES emulator to receive full support in the RetroArch multi-system emulator. Snes9x allows users to play SNES titles from their original cartridges, or from digital files. It supports a wide range of gamepad controllers, and provides a range of options for tweaking game performance, including the ability to save game states. Snes9x also offers a wide range of filters for enhancing the graphics of games. Additionally, it supports cheat codes and the use of external plugins to extend its capabilities.
