Open Authenticator is an open source, free security application that provides users with an extra layer of protection for their online accounts. It uses two-factor authentication (2FA) to verify a user's identity when they log in to an account. 2FA requires the user to enter a one-time password (OTP) in addition to their usual login credentials. This OTP is generated by the Open Authenticator app and is unique for each login session. This ensures that only the user with the correct OTP can access their account, even if someone else knows their login credentials. Open Authenticator also supports hardware tokens and other authentication protocols such as FIDO U2F and OATH HOTP. It also provides a comprehensive set of features such as password encryption, backup and restore, and secure storage of authentication data.
