MonoTouch is a software development platform for creating applications for Apple’s iOS devices, such as the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. It allows developers to use the C# and .NET programming languages to create native applications for the platform. MonoTouch is based on Mono, an open-source implementation of Microsoft’s .NET Framework, and provides a suite of tools for building, deploying and debugging iOS applications. It includes an integrated development environment (IDE), a graphical user interface (GUI) builder, and libraries for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. The platform also includes libraries for developing user interfaces and for accessing the device’s hardware features such as the camera, GPS and accelerometer. MonoTouch also provides support for cloud-based services such as Amazon S3 and Microsoft Azure.
