It's free. It's also smaller, so it starts fast. Works on Android devices as well. Lots of functionality, including symbolic and numeric operations. Symbolic operations are not as extensive as Mathematica, but are adequate for many operations. Numerical operations are considerably slower than Mathematica, and numerically oriented applications such as R, Matlab or Octave.

El mayor problema con Mathematica es que no es una aplicación de código abierto. No quiero decir que sea un problema por el dinero que necesita para comprarlo, pero si desea ver los errores en un sistema caótico, no puede ver la fuente para comprender (encontrar) la función que produce los errores. (Lo siento por mi mal inglés). Cuando trato de comunicarme con Wolfram para darme el código fuente de algo así, me envían un correo electrónico que dice "Es propiedad de la compañía", así que me niego a continuar con mathetica. ..Sólo una herramienta para amateurs, no para profesionales.

Mathematica es un software potente, de código cerrado o abierto. No todas las aplicaciones son de código abierto, y no puede esperar que "le den" el código fuente. Es propiedad de la compañía, y ¿de qué otra forma espera que mantengan a los empleados si regalan su código fuente de forma gratuita? Debes encontrar algunos ejemplos de los usos de Mathematica, es bastante útil. También brindan soporte para su producto, al igual que la mayoría de las compañías de software. Estoy de acuerdo con NightHeron, no hay una buena razón en 2018 para usar software de código fuente cercano. Una empresa puede existir con productos de código abierto. Es una pena que las universidades promuevan este tipo de software.

El principal problema con matemática es que no es de código abierto. Solicite resultados al software y obtendrá algunos, pero no pregunte cómo puede llegar a ese resultado porque está dentro de la caja negra de la propiedad de su compañía. Esto es contrario al espíritu de las matemáticas. Se requieren comprobaciones y explicaciones para que se acepten las reclamaciones, no es suficiente decir "computado usando Mathematica".

Esto es como decir que mis cálculos matemáticos son incorrectos porque usé una calculadora para calcular algunas cosas en lugar de hacerlo a mano. Todavía tiene el código que puso en Mathematica, de la misma manera que todavía tiene los números que ingresó en la calculadora. Como tal, Mathematica es simplemente una calculadora muy poderosa.
