Low Orbit Ion Cannon (LOIC) is a network stress testing and denial-of-service attack application, written in C#. It is an open-source network tool which is designed to flood the network with an immense amount of data packets, thereby causing a denial-of-service attack (DoS) to the target server. The program works by sending User Datagram Protocol (UDP) or Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) requests to the target machine, resulting in a flood of packets, which can overwhelm the target's resources and cause it to become unresponsive to legitimate traffic. LOIC can be used by anyone to test their own server's security, as well as by malicious hackers to launch DoS attacks.
