LightZone, aunque simple en comparación con otros productos de código abierto, es muy capaz de procesar imágenes para crear resultados sorprendentes. Al obtener las primeras impresiones, una persona puede ver que se inspira más en los editores de fotos que en otros. Se jacta de ser el primer programa que ofrece enmascaramiento para imágenes RAW. Cuando se compara con su contraparte Lightroom, esta afirmación es cierta (LightZone Lanzado: 2005 Lightroom: 2007). La máscara existe en este programa, pero en un formato nodal en lugar de pinceles. La facilidad de organizar libremente los ajustes en la barra lateral le da al usuario más espacio para experimentar con el orden de precedencia para que se realicen los efectos.

Para aquellos de ustedes que están tratando de encontrar una manera de decirle adiós a iPhoto, Lightzone tiene un buen flujo de trabajo suficientemente intuitivo para ajustar y editar sus fotos. No va a hacer el paso de admisión; para eso, uso Shotwell, que tiene una mejor interfaz de usuario y es menos llamativo que F-Spot, lo cual fue bueno para su momento, pero no está a la altura de la tarea ahora. También traté de usar Darktable, por mucho que me gustara su interfaz, su flujo de trabajo fue bueno para editar, pero exportar una foto me dejó en la cabeza.
