JChemPaint (JCP) is an open source 2D chemical editor that allows users to draw, edit, and store chemical structures. It is an interactive tool for creating, viewing, editing, and printing 2D structures of small molecules and proteins. It is written in Java and runs on any platform with a Java Virtual Machine. JCP provides a variety of features including an intuitive graphical user interface, an object-oriented data model, an integrated chemical database, a library of standard chemical structures, and a variety of output formats. It can also be used to create structure diagrams, render stereochemical information, highlight atom and bond types, and predict the properties of molecules. JCP can be used to assist in the teaching of organic and medicinal chemistry, biochemistry, and other related disciplines.
