Ingress is an augmented reality massively multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG) developed and published by Niantic for Android and iOS devices. The game is set in the future, where the player is part of a global struggle to control an energy source known as Exotic Matter (XM). Players are divided into two opposing factions, the Enlightened and the Resistance. The game is played by creating portals around the world, which the players battle to control. The player can capture, defend, attack and upgrade portals, and gain access to new capabilities and rewards. The game also features a storyline, which progresses as the player levels up. In addition to the main game, there are several in-game activities and rewards, such as missions, achievements, special events and items. Ingress also has a social aspect, allowing players to join forces and form alliances.
