Google Plus is a social networking platform from Google. It allows users to connect with friends, family, and colleagues, and share photos, videos, and updates. It also enables its users to join communities based on their interests and hobbies, and join Hangouts, which are virtual gatherings of up to 10 people. Hangouts can be accessed from any device, including computers, phones, and tablets. Additionally, Google Plus also offers features such as Events and Circles, which allow users to organize and share events with specific groups of people. Google Plus also offers integration with other Google products, such as Google Drive and Google Photos, allowing users to store and share their files and photos with others.
Diaspora has no group or community function. The only way to filter anything is to manipulate hashtags. Also, there is no moderation mechanism for posts related to any topic. Anyone's post with a hashtag similar to yours will show up in your feed, allowing for a large spam vulnerability.
It's OpenSource, so you can host it yourself. Much more privacy, which is important for businesses.
Almost the same usability as G+, easy to understand and it is possible to create groups using #Hashtags. Many of the former G+ players already came here, so it is easy to gather them.
Mastodon is more similar to Twitter than G+.
Flexible. Broad user and instance base. Interfaces well with most of the rest of fediverse. Actively developing and improving.
Most people who enjoyed G+ did so in opposition to Facebook. Facebook encourages vapidity, G+ encourages discussion and community. They are also quite different in terms of functionality.
Facebook limits the length of communication, does not allow you to see everything you subscribe to and is designed as a corporate advertising site rather than a real social network. Nothing is really private or under your control.
Ad-based, constantly change privacy settings, bury privacy settings, people don't talk about ideas...just silly memes and their daily lives (no, I don't care about their new baby/car/work/lunch).
Pinterest is not about writing, but mainly about links to images and other sites. I want the ability to have conversations about topics.
Because now you can comment on user pins and you can follow user boards and yes, that's where I'll go when G+ shuts down, I don't like any of the others.
It is mostly a Russian website. It is full of them.
Because the content producer receives incentives to produce quality content.
Hosting requirements, etc. make it not useful for people with limited current technology skills or who cannot configure so easily.
MeWe is privately owned, has ZERO ads, is not commercially oriented, offers almost the same options as Google Plus and is growing exponentially worldwide.
