FreeBSD Jails is a virtualization technology for the FreeBSD operating system that provides system administrators with the ability to create and manage multiple isolated systems, or "jails," on a single machine. Each jail has its own isolated resources, including the ability to run its own operating system, applications, and services. Jails provide security, scalability, and manageability benefits over traditional virtualization technologies, such as VMWare or Xen. By isolating each jail from the other, system administrators can ensure that malicious applications or services running in one jail are unable to interfere with other jails, or even the host operating system. Additionally, system administrators can add or remove jails with ease, meaning that they can quickly scale up or down depending on their needs.
