Coinhive Blocker is an app (or website) that seeks to protect users from malicious websites and other online sources that use a type of software called “Coinhive” to secretly mine cryptocurrency in the background of a user’s browser. Coinhive is a JavaScript-based miner that allows website owners to monetize their traffic without ads, by embedding a script in the web page. The script then uses the user’s device to mine cryptocurrency. Coinhive Blocker scans websites for hidden Coinhive scripts, and blocks them before they can be executed, thus protecting users from being unknowingly part of a cryptocurrency mining ring. It also provides users with a log of all the blocked scripts, so that they can stay informed about the sources of malicious scripts.
