Kodi (formerly known as XBMC) is an open source media center application that allows users to access and organize their media content from a variety of sources, including local storage, streaming services, and the internet. Kodi also has a wide range of features, including a library system, media player, streaming capabilities, parental controls, support for multiple languages, and a plugin system. It can be used on a variety of operating systems, including Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, and iOS. Kodi also has a wide range of add-ons available, which allow users to expand the application's functionality and access content from various sources.
Plex is a server program, kodi is an end-user media program. Where they may overlap in usage, they are not the same type of program.
Kodi is a media client. Plex is a media server.
I have been using plex for over a year now. It is over all the best media server/client available on the market. I have no doubt. I will be using plex for years to come.
Plex is a server and client software, while Kodi can be used independently.
I'm a PC Dummy and had to install it on my Fire TV 3 times before I realized it wasn't going to work anyway. I was able to install Kodi 17.1 plus Exodus and after adding Phoenix, Droid Buddy, ES Explorer and a couple of other Addons, I think I have enough to last a lifetime.
It is probably the best alternative in terms of support and features, but damn this program is frustrating to use and requires a lot of resources on your system.
Heavy resource. Lacks customization. Difficult to handle transcoding options.
There aren't as many options as Kodi, and it's somewhat more difficult to manage, but it's still a decent program if, for some reason, you can't use Kodi.
It is one of the best alternative programs, 1 it is free, 2 it gives you the option to watch a TV show or a movie, 3 the quality of the content varies from medium to high and 4 the speed is quite good, the only small problem with this soft, is the adaptability to the remote control, and I think they can correct soon ...
Super easy and fast to use. Excellent The best!
Like Plex, Emby is a hybrid server/player. It allows you to manage users with unique viewing histories and transcoding for any device. The player is robust, spanning Windows, iOS, Android, Windows Phone, among others, along with the most robust web player on the market.
Kodi has add-ons and many additional features
Discontinued in heavy development. No launches yet.
It offers p2p streams instead of scrappers and does a very good job. it allows you to change the player to open VLC or wvwn Kodi streaming.
OSMC is an operating system that uses KODI, it is not an alternative.
Discontinued It seems that the project is no longer developed, but the latest version, 1.90.1, released in August 2013, can still be downloaded from the official website.
Kodi is primarily a front-end ("10-foot interface"), the PS3 media server is primarily a back-end.

As already mentioned, a streaming platform is not an alternative to a media player.
