Wvdial is a free, open-source dialer program for Linux and other Unix-like systems that is designed to simplify the process of connecting to the Internet. It works by automatically configuring the modem, setting up a Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) connection, and dealing with the modem's terminal settings. It supports most popular modems, including the USB-based modems like those from Option, Conexant, and Agere. Wvdial also includes support for dynamic IP addressing and provides a simple interface for configuring and controlling the modem. Wvdial is commonly used for setting up Internet connections on home and small office networks.
