WinBUGS (Bayesian inference Using Gibbs Sampling) is a statistical software package designed for Bayesian analysis of complex statistical models using Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) methods. It is used in many fields, including epidemiology, ecology, economics, psychology, and other social sciences. WinBUGS enables a user to define a statistical model, data and prior distributions and then carry out inference and predictions. It uses a Gibbs sampling technique to draw samples from the posterior distribution, which can then be used to calculate estimates, credible intervals and other diagnostics. WinBUGS is available as a standalone application or as an online application that can be accessed through a web browser.
