Description

User State Migration Tool (USMT) is a Microsoft-designed tool that helps users and administrators migrate user data and configuration settings, such as application settings, user profiles, and operating system settings, from one computer to another. USMT is designed to be used in large-scale deployments, like when users are upgrading to a new version of Windows, or when they are migrating from one computer to another. USMT captures user data and settings, stores them in a migration store, and then deploys them to the new computer. USMT can also be used to back up user data and settings before making any changes. USMT is included in the Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit (ADK) and is available for free from Microsoft.
