TeXmacs is an open source and free software application specifically designed for scientific and educational purposes. It combines the editing of structured documents with the typesetting system TeX and has the ability to communicate with external systems such as the GNU Octave, Maxima, and SageMath computer algebra systems. TeXmacs supports the editing of mathematical formulas and the use of various computer languages such as Scheme and C++. It also provides a graphical user interface (GUI) and a wide range of plugins for additional functionality. TeXmacs also has a text formatting and conversion system for exporting documents to HTML, LaTeX, and other formats.
