Description

Sysvinit is a collection of programs that form the basis of the Unix and Linux operating system startup and shutdown process. It is the oldest and most widely used initialization system, providing the foundation for the user-space services, daemons, and other programs that run when a computer is booted. It also provides a way to shut down the system in an orderly fashion. The sysvinit programs are responsible for starting and stopping services, as well as handling user logins. It is typically started at boot time, and runs until the system is shut down. It is designed to be used in conjunction with an init process, which runs in the background and takes care of the overall system configuration and maintenance.
