Description

Smartmontools is a suite of open source software tools for monitoring and managing the health of hard disk drives and solid-state drives. It provides the ability to collect and display SMART (Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology) data from hard disks and solid-state drives to help detect and diagnose potential problems. It can also be used to perform tests on the drives to detect any potential problems that may arise. The suite includes a command-line interface (CLI) and a GUI application, both of which can be used to view the SMART data and issue commands to the drives. Smartmontools can also be used to set up temperature and other thresholds which can be used to alert the user when a drive is running too hot or has exceeded certain limits. In addition, Smartmontools can be used to perform firmware updates and other maintenance tasks on the drives.
