Description

PowerTOP is a free and open-source Linux application developed by Intel in 2007. Its main purpose is to monitor and improve the overall power consumption of a system by analyzing and identifying power consuming processes and programs, and providing advice and recommendations on how to reduce power consumption. PowerTOP can detect processes that are running in the background and consuming power when the user is not actively using the system, as well as programs that are not optimized for power efficiency. Furthermore, it can detect hardware components that are not being used, and provide information about their power consumption. Additionally, PowerTOP can provide detailed information about the power consumption of various system components, such as the processor, graphics, storage, and wireless. Finally, PowerTOP can provide suggestions on how to reduce power consumption, such as disabling unused services, enabling power-saving features, and optimizing the system's power settings.
