MPG123 is an open-source, command-line based, multi-platform audio player. It reads audio files in MPEG-1, MPEG-2, and MPEG-2.5 Layer 1, 2, and 3 formats, and supports playback of most audio formats, including MP3, Ogg Vorbis, and AAC. MPG123 also has a wide range of features such as gapless playback, crossfading, and the ability to convert audio files from one format to another. MPG123 can be used to play music from local files, as well as from online streaming services. Additionally, MPG123 can be used to create audio CDs, as well as for audio streaming across a network.
Discontinued It is no longer being developed. The latest version, 1.4.17-6, released in May 2010, can still be downloaded from Launchpad.
