Description

MozJPEG is a free, open-source JPEG encoder from Mozilla, the makers of Firefox. It creates smaller JPEG files than any other encoder, while maintaining compatibility with the vast majority of existing web browsers, image viewers, and other software. MozJPEG uses advanced compression technology to reduce the size of JPEG images without sacrificing quality. It achieves this by optimizing the Huffman tables used in the JPEG compression algorithm, which allows for more efficient storage of image data. The resulting file sizes are significantly smaller than those produced by other encoders, while maintaining the same level of quality. In addition to the original JPEG encoder, MozJPEG also includes a web-friendly JPEG encoder that is designed to produce the best possible images for the web. This encoder utilizes the latest web standards and technologies, such as progressive encoding, ICC color profiles, and chroma subsampling. MozJPEG is available for Windows, MacOS, and Linux, and can be used as a standalone application or integrated into other software. It is also available as a web-based application, which allows users to upload images and compress them on the fly.
