HD Tach is a hard drive benchmarking utility, developed by Simpli Software, Inc., for testing the performance of hard drives. It is used to measure the average read speed, access time, burst speed, and CPU usage of various hard drives. HD Tach tests the sequential read, random access and interface burst speeds of a connected hard drive and uses this information to generate a comprehensive report of its performance. The report includes details such as read speed, access times, CPU utilization, burst speeds and average transfer rates. The results of the tests can be used to compare different hard drives and to compare a drive's performance to a manufacturer's claimed specifications.
CrystalDiskMark depends too much on where the operating system decides to place the file. On a disk that is almost full, it may place it near the end where performance is much slower than at the beginning of the disk.
