BabelNet is a multilingual encyclopedia and lexical resource created by the Italian National Research Council (CNR) and the Sapienza University of Rome. It is a large network of lexicalized concepts and named entities (words and phrases) that are connected to each other in a semantic web of knowledge. The lexicalized concepts in BabelNet are linked to a large number of encyclopedic and linguistic resources, such as WordNet, Wikipedia, the Multilingual Central Repository, the Open Multilingual WordNet, and the Universal Dependencies. It provides an integrated view of all these resources, allowing users to access and query them in a unified way. BabelNet is a powerful tool for natural language processing and knowledge engineering, providing a comprehensive basis for many applications ranging from machine translation to question answering. It can be used as an online application, or through an API.
