A menudo utilizo documentos en una carpeta pública en Google Docs o Microsoft SkyDrive. Las URL de estos documentos no son seleccionables y son cadenas muy complicadas de caracteres y números aleatorios. Es muy fácil asignar un nombre de dominio más corto y autoexplicativo a estas URL para mis documentos publicados en línea con la ayuda de AlpenNIC.com, que está disponible en muchos idiomas. Con AlpenNIC.com puede seleccionar libremente la terminación del nombre de dominio, por ejemplo, con at.tf o us.tf o eu.tf, esto no es posible con los servicios normales de acortamiento de URL. Si usar FreeDNS para el mismo propósito no es tan fácil y los extremos predefinidos de los nombres de URL son extraños y largos, por ejemplo. cickenkiller.com o mooo.com.
