Inscape has many tools and options. It is very stable and updates are frequent. I never needed other software to do my work.

As a veteran user of vector software from the beginning with MacDrawPro in Freehand and then Illustrator, I find the affinity designer to be the most intuitive and easy to use of all, surprising when you look at the size of the development team. Illustrator is a little more feature rich on the smart tools front, but nothing I really miss and the folks at Serif continue to roll out updates: it's a pleasure to use and is now my default application, I can't sing their praises enough. very well done!
Krita is a painting program. Adobe Illustrator is a complete vector drawing program.

Much more basic than Illustrator, but capable.
Especially for prototypes and sketches, it is much better than Photoshop or Illustrator.
It is much easier to use and understand. It gives the average user a quicker understanding of editing and creating graphics. It is also less greedy with RAM.

Totally free. Easier to use than Inkscape, better with vectors than Krita, and available on more platforms than Sketch. It's a bit slow and sticky when you've made a very complicated image, but honestly it's the best possible alternative I've found. Thanks, and thanks to Gravit.
It is a simple yet powerful vector editing program, suitable for vector artists, web designers, editors, logo designers, etc. It also features non-destructive Boolean operations (best search engine), presentation mode, multiple strokes and fills, global palettes and more Surprisingly, without any clutter.
It's free, and also easy to use. Some advanced features are missing, but the development team is constantly adding new ones.
More of a flowchart designer than a vector illustrator
InkPad has all the essentials of Adobe Illustrator with the same look and feel of tools, icons, Bézier curves, etc. There are layers, masks, you can place pixel-based images on documents. It feels like Illustrator from the old days, before all the effects options. But, you really start to wish for a mouse. Also note that currently, InkPad doesn't seem to react at all to input from a Bluetooth keyboard.

It does some secret things that Illustrator can't or doesn't do. It certainly has a more useful color picker: too bad at Adobe for that awful color picker!
