Ableton Live is an audio and music production application that is used by musicians, DJs, producers, and sound engineers. It is a powerful digital audio workstation (DAW) that allows users to compose, record, remix, and arrange music in various ways. Ableton Live has a unique non-linear approach to music production, with features such as a timeline-based sequencing tool, real-time audio and MIDI effects, and a vast library of virtual instruments and sounds. The software also includes powerful tools for live performance, such as loop-based remixing, built-in effects and instruments, and the ability to control external hardware and devices. Ableton Live is available for both Mac and PC and has become one of the most popular DAWs among musicians and producers in the music industry.
LMMS is free and has many functions similar to ableton's live functions, but they are a bit difficult to use.
If you're just getting into the scene and have a limited budget, it's pretty good especially since it's free and open source.
While LMMS might be free, it doesn't come close to Ableton's abilities.
LMMS is just great! With a good tablet with Debian installed, it can even run on Android!
I have been using Ableton and Fl for a long time on PC and Mac. Since Android tablets are limited in power and functionality, it would be best to recommend Fl Moble. It is the most powerful and best performing DAW on mobile devices so far.
Ease of use: wide range of VST and native instruments and effects. Has been around a long time but constantly updating. Has a 'live' mode and traditional DAW operation.
Also nonlinear, it has a very similar loop sequencing tool.
The description did not mention that you can make music in the program yourself.
Very similar functionality + similar workflow. Easy recovery from rare failures, and the plug-in sandbox means fewer failures compared to Ableton Live.
MuLab has a modular MUX interior and, in fact, MuLab is a large modular environment. And yet it is easy to operate and very stable. Meta parameter knobs can be assigned to multiple VST plug-in parameters at the same time. And the knobs can be assigned to external hardware MIDI controllers.
It's good, but it doesn't even come close to Abelton's workflow.
