2048.io is an online puzzle game originally created by Italian web developer Gabriele Cirulli. It is based on the 2048 game developed by the same person. The goal of the game is to combine tiles of matching numbers by sliding them around the board until a tile of the number 2048 is created. The game begins with four tiles of number 2 placed randomly on the 4x4 grid. The player can move the tiles up, down, left or right by using the arrow keys. When two tiles of the same number touch, they will merge into one tile of double the number. The player can continue to combine like tiles until they reach the number 2048. The game is over when the board is full and no more moves are available. Players are then ranked according to the highest number they created. The game is simple and addictive, and the challenge is to create the highest number possible.
